Tilles Park. Near flat.
Hampton and Fyler
Originally, the park was named after Rosalie Tilles, whose son, Andrew Tilles, donated 68 acres of county land at Litzinger and Lay roads to the city in 1932. And therein lies the reason why there are two Tilles Parks, one in the city and one in the county.
The city developed the county land into a park and maintained it for 18 years. In 1955, the city sold the park to the county and bought a 29-acre parcel of land in the city at Fyler and Hampton avenues, which was also named Rosalie Tilles Park. Hence, the two Tilles Parks.
"The park was named for Rosalie, but on the sign you only see the Tilles part," said Suzanne Hirth, co-chair of the Tilles Park Parks Committee.
Tilles Park is across the street from Hampton Gardens Apartments one time the "Potter's Field" charity burial ground of the City of St. Louis.
So, look out for poltergeist.
