Geocache Description:

This type of cache is the type I like to look for…those that require a nice challenging hike with a decent sized ammo can waiting to be found. I hope you enjoy those as well and this one too! This cache is placed at Wildcat Trail with the permission of the Hardin County Conservation Board. I didn’t see any wildcats while placing the cache, but I’m sure there were some many years ago! First off, you will need to park at the parking coordinates (N42 23.307 W093 05.403) near the road and walk down the mowed path. Just before you get to the end of the mowed path, look to the right and you will find a faint trail that leads down the hill to a footbridge. After you cross the footbridge the trail is hard to follow as it is not well marked…if at all. You may want to throw down a few bread crumbs to help you find your way back! Depending on which way you go, you may have to cross a small ravine or two. If there has been recent heavy rain, it may be difficult to get to the cache due to the ravines. If the trail is wet, it will be slippery, so be careful. If you follow the trail that heads in a westerly direction you will soon come to the high bluff overlooking the Iowa River. When there are no leaves on the trees, the view is breathtaking! In the summer time it is harder to see the river below. Be sure to also take note of the massive cliffs. The good thing about finding the cache is that there is very little bushwhacking involved. The heavy tree cover doesn’t allow much to grow on the forest floor. You are looking for a 30mm ammo can with an official geocaching sticker attached. There are lots of nice items for the kids, so be sure to bring them along. They will have fun on the hike! I hope you have as much fun looking for this cache as I did placing it. Good luck!
