TheSayreShellie: Sorry folks, this one has to be archived. I had confirmed that it was missing with my 9/19 visit & post. I never heard back from "PennDot" about whether there is a new policy against caches at rest stops, as some searchers have claimed.

However, I did read the big ol' sign of rules here clearing stating that the rest area is NOT to be used when "closed" signs are posted. And that is a significant amount of time. And I'm also aware of proposed state legislation increasing fines if certain such "control" signs are ignored. So better to play it safe...have safe traveling, folks.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located at a Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation rest stop on U.S. Route 6.

This is another cache that is oriented to Pennsylvania's U.S. Route 6, giving the cacher an opportunity to enjoy the quaint towns, historic sites, natural wonders, vistas, forests and mountains along this historic route that stretches across the United States from Cape Cod to California. This particular cache is atop the locally famous Armenia Mountain, which Route 6 conveniently traverses. Stop and rest here, perhaps enjoy your picnic lunch (there are plenty of picnic tables). The rest stop is normally closed in the winter but the cache is available year-round. Lots of parking spaces are in the rest stop area. However in the winter time, parking is at a pull off spot on the north side of the highway.

This is a small Geocache container that holds small items. The plastic container was originally damaged by a bear at the "Mid State Trail - Hackett's Fork" cache. I've repaired it and placed it in a zip-loc bag for this cache. If the bag needs to be replaced at any time, please note this when you report your find.

Please endeavor to trade items related to Pennsylvania's Route 6, or a least to travelling it by car.

DO NOT DRIVE AROUND THE BARRICADES.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PARK IN THE REST AREA PARKING.

PLEASE PARK SAFELY IN THE SNOW PLOW PULL-OFF / TURN AROUND INSTEAD (see ALTERNATIVE PARKING WAYPOINT below).

TOILET FACILITIES WILL BE OFF-LIMITS. OTHER AMENITIES CANNOT BE GUARANTEED.

BUT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO WALK IN & STRETCH YOUR LEGS IN THE REST AREA. (& find a geocache!)
