The Dunfermline factory known locally as the ‘White Elephant’ was built in 1996 as a manufacturing base for the South Korean firm Hyundai. Substantial sums of public money were used to attract Hyundai to Scotland, in the biggest inward investment in the UK at that time.
The project collapsed after the downturn in the economies of the Far East and since then, had laid idle.
In the year 2000 the electronics giant Motorola announced plans to locate its biggest European semiconductor plant in Scotland, employing 1,350 people.
The company bought the mothballed factory and invested £1.3bn in the 150-acre site.
To date the site is still empty having never been brought online to manufacture anything!!!!
Access to the cache site can be very muddy at times, boots are advisable.
