Sammamish River: Redmond 2
Kenmore:
Joe's
Every wanted to paddle? Ever wanted to paddle a fair amount?
Ever ridden the Burke-Gilman Trail? Ever thought a bike
just make the trip from Redmond to Kenmore a little too easy?
Well, TeamIDFC has the challenge you're looking for!
That's right, introducing the...
Sammamish River: 'Redmond 2 Kenmore' Four Part
PaddlePalooza!
Yes, that's right paddle caching enthusiasts - a great excuse to
paddle the entire length of the Sammamish River while collecting at
least 4 caches -
SR: R2K #1: Joe's,
SR: R2K #2: Blows,
SR: R2K #3: Bows,
SR: R2K #4: Photos. For those interested, you can launch
in Redmond and paddle about 12 miles downstream to Kenmore.
Launch co-ords are in the listing for SR: R2K #1, pull-out
co-ords are in SR: R2K #4. TeamIDFC did the one-way trek in about 5
hours while placing caches. Most paddlers should be able to
make the trek in about 4 hours. Note: We went one-way
(left a car at the pull-out before putting in) - so round-trip
times would be slightly more than doubled as the return would
be heading back up river. The caches themselves don't have a
ton of intrinsic value (smalls to micros with logs), but the paddle
is quite beautiful.
Those that want smaller paddles will find optional launch locations
in each cache listing.
Specifics for SR: R2K #1:
Joe's
Cache: A
smallish plastic container (from
Joe's sporting goods)
hanging from an obvious location. Be sure to check
the water level while you are there...
Portage: Moderate.
There is parking at Luke McRedmond park and a very nice
paved/concrete path down to the river with great steps for
launching and retrieving, but it is a few hundred foot
walk.
Note: Parking is free at
Luke McRedmond park, no permit
necessary.
