I checked a 3, but the automatic system rated the terrain a 3.25, as there is a cattle fence that you must go through. This is the perfect place for a picnic lunch, a bottle of wine, and your favorite companion cacher!
This cache is at the gravesite of Edward Hampton, the namesake of the trailhead that is the easiest access to the site. He passed away in 1935. The location is on East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD) land, and although accessible to the public, a permit is required. I have lived in the area for quite a while, and have hiked here somewhat often, and have never been asked for a permit, and only just recently got one, as I figured that I pushed my luck long enough. I recommend that you get one, they are very inexpensive.
Although this is on East Bay Municipal Utilities District Land, it is on a portion that is leased for cattle grazing. Care and respect must be used in accessing the site, as it is a real gravesite.
The cache is a .50 cal. ammo can, and is located in plain sight, but not from the grave site, but within 15 feet of it. One of the photos shows the container, but not in it's hiding spot. However the view in the photo is looking right at the stash location.
