Robinson Preserve opened to the public July 19, 2008. The hours of operation are 8:00AM to Sunset. No admission fee. It is a restored 489 acres of uplands, wetlands, high saltern habitat and waterways offering hiking and biking (6 miles of trails), canoeing and kayaking (1 ¼ miles within the park), fishing, boardwalks, an observation tower and a primitive campsite. The property was acquired by Manatee County in 2003, saving it from housing development. During the past five years, it has been completely restored – invasive exotics removed (except for one large Australian Pine which is home to a Great Horned Owl), waterways reworked to allow tidal flow from the Manatee River to Perico Bay and Roberts Bay (canoeist and kayakers can travel these waterways), native plants and grasses planted (local volunteers of all ages doing part of the work).
The Valentine House, a Victorian two story home, was floated seven miles on a barge across Terra Ceia Bay and down the Manatee River to its new home as the Visitor Center for Robinson Preserve.
