Geocache Description:

It's an election year; the candidates have their short lists; and so do I. The purpose of this series is to pay sincere tribute to this areas Geocaching Hall of Famers.

I've had this idea for a while, and had already made out my short list of those that I wanted to induct, and the reasons why; but this one is a bit of a no-brainer... Who is the LEANEST, MEANEST, CACHING MACHINE, IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA??? There is no doubt about it; the caching couple from Acworth that is always SMILING! And I do mean that literally. I've never seen these dear people that they didn't greet me with a smile, and even talking to them over the phone, or through e-mail you can feel that they really earn their name.

The first time I met these two, they had only been geocaching for 5 months; but I knew something was up, because they had already signed over 800 logs at that time! Since that time, they have visited over 6000 more caches, making them number one in the state of Georgia! Most of this was done while they were both working full time; but WATCH OUT because this dynamic duo are retired now!

My favorite story that I like to tell on Sam is that we were geocaching one time, and came up on an awesome waterfall. Being awestruck at the sight, I said "Sam, isn't that a beautiful waterfall?" to which he replies without even slowing his pace "I DIDN'T COME UP HERE TO LOOK AT NO WATERFALL!" -- It's really not altogether true, and he's not quite that bad, but I will tell you we've been caching together a few times, and it is a pace that will wear you out! We've had some great fun out there, and I hope to get to do it again soon.

There is no doubt these people are SICK, and OBSESSED with their geocaching, but there really is more to the story than that... I don't know all the details (maybe someone will e-mail me with the information) but I do remember a story about a geocacher that went geocaching somewhere in the mountains by himself. When he didn't show up at home when he was supposed to, his wife made some calls to other geocachers; and when word got to Sam he dropped what he was doing and headed for the hills to look for the missing geocacher. I'm not sure what happened from there, and I think the cacher was ok anyway, but that's enough of the story to show you what an asset SIA is to geocaching!
