Il Forte Tre Sassi è situato sulla strada della Valparola, nell'ambiente selvaggio e lunare che ispirò le leggende delle Dolomiti, ed è raggiungibile in due minuti di macchina dal Passo Falzarego.
L'edificio è stato da poco restaurato dai danni della guerra e da quelli arrecati negli anni '30-'40, quando furono asportati dalla struttura tutti i materiali ferrosi (corazze, cupole girevoli e putrelle), salvando a testimonianza della storia i segni dei Bombardamenti subìti durante la Grande Guerra che ne determinarono l'abbandono.
Il Forte rimane oggi un monumento dall'architettura massiccia ed affascinante, con spesse murature di grandi massi di pietra. Sulle pareti si aprono strette feritoie ed ampie finestre che creano internamente un'atmosfera di grande suggestione. Ed è proprio all'interno di questo ambiente che ha sede il Museo della Grande Guerra sulle Dolomiti.
Qui sono esposti reperti del conflitto provenienti da questa area del fronte, oltre a fotografie e a documenti che narrano la storia delle popolazioni montane che furono coinvolte nella guerra.
Le spiegazioni esposte e quelle fornite dall'audioguida a noleggio sono in italiano, inglese e tedesco. L'ingresso è a pagamento.
Nelle immediate vicinanze del Forte si accede al lago di Valparola, con gli ampi prati sottostanti, ed al Rifugio Valparola.

Die Festung Tre Sassi befindet sich an der Valparola Straße in einer wilden, einer Mondlandschaft ähnlichen Umgebung, welche Dolomitenlegenden inspirierten und ist in zwei Autominuten vom Paß Falzarego aus erreichbar.
Das Gebäude wurde vor kurzem restauriert um die Kriegschäden und die jenigen der dreißiger - vierziger Jahre zu beseitigen, während denen alle eisenhaltigen Materialen (Panzerungen, drehbare Kuppeln und Abstützungen) entfernt wurden. Als Zeugen der Geschichte wurden die Auswirkungen der Bombardierung während des ersten Weltkrieges, welche zu ihrer Aufgabe führte, bewahrt.
Die Festung verbleibt als Monument der massiven, faszinierenden Architektur, mit dicken Mauern und großen Steinmassen. Die Wänden sind mit engen Schießscharten und weiten Fenstern versehen, welche im Inneren eine eindrucksvolle Atmosphäre herstellen. Und gerade in diesen Räumlichkeiten befindet sich das Museum des Ersten Weltkrieges auf den Dolomiten.
Hier ist, außer Fotographien und Unterlagen, welche die Geschichte der in den Krieg verwickelten Bevölkerung erzählen, Kriegsmaterial aus diesem Frontbereich ausgestellt.
Die angebrachten Erklärungen sowie diejenigen der leihbaren Tonführung sind in Italienisch, Englisch und Deutsch gehalten. Der Eintritt erfolgt nach Bezahlung.
In unmittelbarer Nähe der Festung kommt man zum Valparola See mit weiten, tiefer gelegenen Wiesen und schließlich zur Valparola Hütte.

The Tre Sassi Fort is located on the Valparola road, in a wild, lunar environment that inspired many legends of the Dolomites. It is accessible from the Falzarego Pass in a 2-minute drive.
The building has recently been restored from the damages of the war and those occurred in the thirties and forties when all the iron objects were removed (i.e. armour platings, rotating cupolas and iron beams), in an attempt to preserve - as historical evidence - the traces left by the bombardments, suffered during the Great War, which determined its evacuation.
The Fort is today a monument of the heavy and fascinating architecture, with thick walls of big masses of stone. Narrow loopholes and large windows open into its walls to create inside a highly suggestive atmosphere. And exactly here, inside this fort, is the site of the Museum of the Great War on the Dolomites.
Evidence of the combat from this area of the front are here exhibited, as well as photographs and documents telling the history of the mountain populations who were involved in the war. The explanations displayed and the ones given by the audio-guide for hire are in Italian, English and German. Admission is charged.
In the vicinity of the Fort there are the Valparola lake, with its large meadows, and Rifugio Valparola.
