Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates.

Baseball and Geocaching both greatly involve numbers. This Puzzle Cache demonstrates that fact to some degree.

Finding this geocache will require some baseball knowledge, a bit of astronomy, perhaps geometry, some GPS navigational skills, possible use of a good search engine or reference book, intuition, and maybe just a bit of luck. Once you solve the puzzle, there are several ways to locate the cache.

You are batting in the bottom of the ninth inning of a tie game late in the season. A W is critical to attaining a playoff spot in the post season. As you step into the box and look out at the mound, you notice the Big and Little Dippers just above the pitcher’s head directly over the center field fence. Is this cosmological prophecy, just coincidence, or what? You then remember that your on-deck batter leads the league in doubles this season and has been on a tear lately. You have excellent speed and if you can just get on base, there's a near-certainty that he will knock you in to win the game.

Determine the location of first base and you will be able to score from there. To do that, you must answer the following baseball questions:

A = the retired uniform number of the last Triple Crown winner minus the primary field position number he played during that season

B = the difference between the number of seasons Yankee Stadium was in operation when torn down in 2008 and the longest drought between Red Sox World Series Championships

C = the “Keystone base” is base number 1, 2, or 3

D = during Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak in 1941, the number of 2-hit games he had minus the number of 4-hit games

E = the first All-Star game was played in 193C (nineteen thirty what?)

F = the most home runs ever hit by Lou Gehrig in one game minus the most ever hit by Willie Mays in one game

First base is located at: N 36°47.ABC W 076°08.DEF

Congratulations to Just Passing Through on his first FTF!
