Geocache Description:

The cache is located in the back of Graydon Hall park in Don Mills, Ontario.

It's a lock n' lock box, medium size, and has been spray painted to camouflage. The cache does have a green Geocache sticker on the front to assist.

This whole area is formed around Graydon Hall Manor, which is located about 150 yards from the cache. The Manor was created by Henry Bain, a successful stock broker of the great depression who struck it rich selling gold during otherwise difficult times.

After his success, he bought the land (100 acres) for an "affordable" $75,000 and then commissioned the building of the house for $250,000 in 1936.

Graydon House eventually became a center for high society life, holding regular socialite gatherings including the Eglinton Hunt Club, debut parties, and a yearly New Year’s Eve gala.

Famous visitors during the heyday of Graydon Hall included Katharine Hepburn, Vivian Leigh, and Mary Pickford, who was actually a childhood friend of Aileen Bain (wife of Henry).

As funds dwindled, portions of the land on the estate are sold in order to pay for taxes and keep the house operational.

Bain eventually divorced his wife but continued to live at the manor until 1951, when he suffered a tragic horse riding accident and died at the age of 54.

After his death, the land was purchased by Normco Limited and Combo Construction for over $1M. Normco developed the land to build apartments and condominiums under the name Peel Elder Limited.

Nowadays the land that enveloped the manor is a stretch of apartment buildings overlooking one of the world's busiest highways, but nestled in the chaos can be found a quaint house and location, now best known for its galas, weddings, and corporate event hosting.

Please note that this is a seasonal cache. In order to maintain the integrity of the site, I will be removing the cache after the first snowfall of the year as there is a school nearby and tracks to the cache will most certainly give it away. The cache may return next season.
