This hike is not suitable for inexperienced hikers. The Drakensberg
is subject to severe weather changes and if ill prepared a hiker
can find themselves in extreme danger. Always take the necessary
climbing gear with, warm waterproof clothing, a cellphone, and at
least 2 to 3 liters of water. You can fill up along the way the
last place been Breakfast stream on the escarpment of the little
Berg. There is a small stream just after Blind Mans Corner that you
might be able to replenish your water but it wasn't flowing when i
went. Please note that this hike is relatively easy up to Blind Mans
Corner. After that you will start a steep ascent to the top. Not
much place where it will be level.
Take note that this cache is at 2950+ meter above sea level.
Sign the hikers register at monks cowl camp site, there is a small
fee payable.
Once you reach the top of the gully which might be a good spot
to rest and watch Vultures circle above or down in the valley
below. The climb to the top is by no means easy as a bit of rock
scrambling will have to be done. You will find a section where you
can go up through a gap between the rocks and from there it is up
to the top no problem.
At the top you will find a white cross placed here by the MOTHS.
The cache is about a meter away placed under some rocks and hidden
well. Cache is a lock 'n lock container and has a few small trade
items inside. In the rush to get going on my hike I forgot my stash
note, logbook and pencil. But I have a pack of playing cards inside
for the visitors to sign. Only one card to be signed per cacher and
the cards to be left in the pack. If the first cacher could maybe
print out a stash note and drop it off in the cache for me i will
greatly appreciate it. Also although I have used the cards as the
notebook, if the first cacher could perhaps put one in for me along
with a pencil. I forgot that snow up there would freeze the
ink...
