***Congrats to the Friendly Ghosts on this FTF!*** A number of years ago I became fascinated by the life and times of Anna Schilstra and her family after watching my nephew perform in a community drama, "Dr. Anna", written and directed by local playright Sheila Reid. This play depicted the life of Dr. Anna Schilstra, one of Steinbach's early doctors. In 1919, the Schilstras were asked by their Steinbach acquaintances to move to Steinbach to serve the area. The husband and wife team accepted the offer and became prominent figures in the community of Steinbach. They spent their remaining years in Steinbach. Anna passed away March 14, 1942 at the age of 71; Alexander died November 26, 1962 at the age of 90. At the end of the performance the playwright stated that the final resting site of the two doctors was just outside of town. I have, for years, wanted to stop there and now I have finally done so and discovered a wonderfully peaceful area and a beautiful cemetery.
