Geocache Description:

This is on public property in the Allegheny National Forest.
This cache is hidden near one of the biggest Ash trees you will ever see!

This cache is to show off what might be the biggest Ash tree in the state of Pennsylvania. If you have seen a bigger one, or know of a bigger one, I'd like to know about it! This is one magnificent giant Ash tree!

This is a standard cache hidden in a very traditional fashion.

You can park right off rt 59 at N41 51.550 W078 50.681.

My advice is as you leave the car, at the gate entrance, although your GPS might point you straight toward the cache, away from the road, you swing to the left and hike in the more "open woods". The field in front of you might look easier, but at the back there are rocks you would have to climb down to reach the cache if you follow your GPS straight to the cache.

I suggest as you leave the car, head more west or north west than your GPS tells you, just to make it an easier walk to the cache.

There is a big, high canopy, and the signal might be poor, but there is a gap in the canopy near the cache and there is only ONE big Ash tree near the cache. There are other big Ash trees around, but this one is substantially larger than the others.

We did not measure this tree yet, but it must be the biggest Ash in the state! It is on National Forest property, so there may be information on it if you ask at the Allegheny National Forest Bradford Ranger District station just a few miles down the road from the cache.

Right next to the cache is the headwaters of a major stream than runs downhill to Sugar Bay on rt 321. It's a very beautiful stream all the way, and has many rocks and waterfalls in it.
