!! Exciting New Cache Series!!
“COLORADO
SPIRIT QUEST”
The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many
individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying
respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before
us.
There are
hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across
Colorado. This series will introduce you to many of
them.
The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the
cemeteries and tombstones.
COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit
Quest’ group. Special thanks and credit are given to
SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea
has rapidly spread into many states.
The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task. It
cannot be accomplished by just one or two people. This
project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer
cachers willing to place these caches.
After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back
on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make
Colorado such a great state.
If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan”
contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado
Spirit Quest #1 – Mo
untain Passage”. Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of
the page of their profile.
Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its
maintenance.
REMEMBER:
If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this
series.

On may way back from the Mountain Luau event I decided to make a
detour up to Central City by way of Virginia Canyon to pick up some
caches that had appeared since year. When I got to "Wimsey", I
looked off over Central City and saw a cemetery behind the Coeur
d'Alene mine. After taking a few wrong turns I managed to get
myself up there. There was no sign on the gate but I subsequently
determined this to be the Masonic Cemetery for Central City.
The cache, a 35mm micro, is placed in such a way that it can be
retrieved for either inside or outside the fence. Should you be
interested, wander around some and get a feel for life 100 or so
years ago.
This cemetery is reputed to have a ghost. I knew that would get
your interest! This is the story.
Every April 5 and November 1, it is said that a beautiful woman in
a black satin dress appears and lays flowers on the grave of John
Edward Cameron. There are many different rumors for the connection
between this ghost and Cameron, who died on November 1, 1887. At
one time, twelve people gathered at Cameron's grave on November 1
to see the ghost. They were not disappointed -- at sunset, the
woman appeared as always, but when two of the men tried to grab
her, she flew off and vanished on a hill not far from the
cemetery.
See if you can find the grave of John Edward Cameron. Look for a
tall monument
The best way to approach this cache is off of Nevadaville Rd. If
you arriving on the parkway, there is a sign for a left turn to
Nevadaville which is Nevadaville Rd. If you come up from Blackhawk
or up Virginia Canyon (the Oh My God road), get to Central City and
then head for the parkway. At the edge of town is the Nevadaville
right turn.
