In 1968, Federal Route 6, a.k.a. The Grand Army of the Republic Highway, bypassed the city of Bowling Green, and in the process, decapitated a number of important roads out of town, including Gypsy Lane. According to local history reports, this road was named for the gypsies who frequently camped in a large grove near the old Baltimore and Ohio railroad tracks south of the lane. Perhaps they also hopped a train occasionally because a large enclave of gypsies was also reported to camp out on the northern outskirts of North Baltimore, OH, some 13 miles south of BG, back in the day.
