Il Passo San Lucio, situato nelle Prealpi luganesi ad una altitudine di 1.541 s.l.m., collega la Val Cavargna in Provincia di Como con la Val Colla nel Canton Ticino (Svizzera). Sul versante italiano esiste una strada carrozzabile che porta al passo, mentre il versante svizzero è servito da sentieri percorribili solamente a piedi e ciclabili.
Sul valico sorge una chiesa del XIV secolo dedicata a San Lucio e due rifugi: uno in territorio italiano e uno in territorio svizzero che funge pure da ristorante.
Ho voluto posizionare un cache nelle vicinanze anche in ricordo di una delle mie ‘imprese’ in bicicletta.
Giro di due giorni: partenza da casa (Arese), Appiano G, Bizzarone, Mendrisio,Lugano, val Colla, Bidogno, monte Bar fino al rifugio ‘Capanna Monte Bar’ e pernottamento.
Il giorno successivo difficile sentiero ( per bike ma non particolarmente impegnativo a piedi) fino al passo San Lucio. (poco più di 9 km, indicato 3 h a piedi)
Per chi volesse avventurarsi in mtb segnalo che il percorso non è proibitivo ma bisogna fare molta attenzione, presenta molti tratti sconnessi e a volte esposti. I primi due km sono molto agevoli (carrozzabile fino all’alpe di Piandanazzo), successivamente diventa un sentiero a mezzacosta con diversi tratti esposti e alcuni saliscendi a volte ‘impegnativi’. Fare attenzione alla discesa verso l’Alpe di Pietragrossa, dopo un cancelletto (elettrificato!) c’è un tratto in discesa molto sconnesso, con pietre, zolle di terra e …… escrementi animali.
L’unico problema serio ( e anche rischioso) che ho dovuto affrontare è a circa 2 km da San Lucio, qui il sentiero è franato, una buca profonda oltre un mt, superarla a piedi non presenta difficoltà eccessive ma portare la bici (da solo) dall’altra parte è stata un’impresa un po’ rischiosa. Sono riuscito a passare sulla parte sin. ripida ma molto bagnata.
Se qualcuno vuole avventurarsi tenga presente questa rischio (spero che al più presto venga ripristinato il sentiero).
Arrivato al S. Lucio ho continuato per la Val Rezzo, Porlezza, Menaggio, Como.
Dopo questa divagazione ecco la strada ‘più fattibile’ per arrivare al cache e a San Lucio:
Da Porlezza seguire le indicazioni per la Val rezzo e quindi Val Cavargna, arrivati a Buggiolo, parcheggiare vicino alla fontana e prendere la ripida carrozzabile cementata. La strada si alterna in tratti sotto il bosco e altri scoperti.
Acqua presente lungo il percorso e soprattutto in cima e lungo il tracciato che porta al monte Garzirola.
Il cache non è proprio sul passo dove è presente la chiesa e i rifugi, ma poco prima di un tornante e di un cartello indicatore che segna il passo San Lucio (credo sia però errato!).
Da qui circa 500 mt di salita vi separano da San Lucio.
Ho scelto questa posizione perché in cima non non ho trovato un adeguato nascondiglio lontano da occhi indiscreti (sabato e festivi è presente parecchia gente).
Per chi vuole posso fornire i tracciati GPS, sia da Porlezza-Val Rezzo che dalla val Colla, contattatemi pure, anche per ulteriori informazioni.

The passo San Lucio, situated in the luganesi PreAlps to an altitude of 1.541 s.l.m., connects the Val Cavargna in Province of Como with the Val Colla in the Canton Ticino (Switzerland). Sul Italian depositor is a carrozzabile road that door to the step, while the Swiss depositor is served from percorribili paths only on foot and bike. Valico Sul rises a church of XIV the century dedicated to Saint Lucio and two shelters: in Italian territory and in Swiss territory that also acts as from restaurant.
I have intentional to put a cache in the vicinities also in memory of one of mine `imprese' in bicycle.
Turn of two days: departure from house (Arese), Appiano G, Bizzarone, Mendrisio, Lugano, val Colla, Bidogno, mount Bar till the shelter `Capanna monte Bar and night's passing. The successive day difficult path (for bike but not particularly on foot) till the Saint Lucio. (little more than 9 km, indicated 3 h on foot)
For who it wanted to be taken risks in mtb marks it that the distance is not impposible, but it must make much attention, introduces many unconnected features and sometimes exposed. The first two km they are much easy (carrozzabile one till the alpe of Piandanazzo), successively becomes a path to mezzacosta with various features exposed and some up and down i sometimes `impegnativi'. Make attention to the reduction towards the Alpe di Pietragrossa, after a little gate (electric!!)) down with stones, earth sods and ...... excrements animals.
The only serious problem (and also risky) that I have had to face is to approximately 2 km from Saint Lucio, here the path is landslide, a deep hole beyond a 1 mt, to exceed on foot does not introduce it excessive difficulties but to carry the bike (alone) from the other part has been a a little risky enterprise. They are successful to pass on the part sin. steep but a lot bathed. If someone wants to be taken risks this risk keeps in mind (hopes that to more soon it comes restored the path).
Arrived to S. Lucio I have continued for the Val Rezzo, Porlezza, Menaggio, Como.
After this divagazione the road `more easy' in order to arrive here to the cache and Saint Lucio: Porlezza to follow the indications for the Val rezzo and therefore Val Cavargna, arrived to Buggiolo), to park near Fontana and to take the steep carrozzabile cemented. The alternate road in features under the forest and other discoveries. Present water along the distance and above all in long top and the tracing that door to the Garzirola mount. The cache it is not own on the step where it is present the church and the shelters, but shortly before a hairpin curve and of a trust pointer who marks the Saint step Lucio (creed is but wrong). From approximately 500 mt of climb they separe to you here from Saint Lucio. I have chosen this position because in top I have not found an adapted hiding place far away from indiscreet eyes (saturday and festive much people are present).
