Geocache Description:

A 2+ mile round trip hike in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.

A while back, I was descending one morning from Peak 2429 (see GC3B04 Club 2400) when a couple of tourists stopped me at the junction where the trail splits off to the top, and asked me where the "other" trail went. I had to admit that I didn't know. I was out this morning but lacked the energy to head up to the top, so I decided to find an answer to their question: as of now, it goes to a geocache and a nice view of the Preserve.

I did find it curious that the short length of trail to this cache beyond the junction looks like an old graded jeep track, and I wonder what it was used for.

This cache is accessible from several different trailheads, with the closest being the one off 40th Street. Mileage will be longer from other trailheads. Please resist the urge to follow the arrow rather than the trail. The trail does lead to the cache and no bushwhacking is necessary. A quick review of an aerial photo is recommended, as the trail does not appear on some maps.

This is a desert cache, and the usual caveats apply: bring water, watch out for critters, wear sturdy shoes, etc.

The cache container is a small (3x4x5 or so) lock & lock with room for small trade items and smaller travel bugs.

Congratulations to Punksoulbrother for the FTF!
