Hidden on July 31st, which, as all wizards and witches (as well as J.K. Rowling fans) know, is Harry Potter’s birthday. Don’t go to the listed coordinates.
This quest will take you to our vault at Gringotts, a bank for the magical community operated by goblins, where you will find a small trove of geocoins, some trackable and some not.
“Enter, stranger, but take heed
Of what awaits the sin of greed,
For those who take, but do not earn,
Must pay most dearly in their turn.
So if you seek beneath our floors
A treasure that was never yours,
Thief, you have been warned, beware
Of finding more than treasure here.”
Cachers, pay heed to this cautionary verse engraved on the doors of Gringotts Wizarding Bank and proceed with an honest heart and wands at the ready. From the listed coordinates you must use your arithmancy skills to calculate the initial stage of your journey. First you must determine the number of the Gringotts vault in which the Philosopher’s Stone was placed for safekeeping when Rubeus Hagrid retrieved it. Proceed this number of metres on a course of 216.41 degrees. You will find yourself in a small wood on the outskirts of Hogsmeade village. Now you must persuade the whomping willow to show you the key to our vault. (Please note that identification of this tree’s species was made by Xenophilius Lovegood, editor of The Quibbler, and may not be reliable. Others have claimed that the enchanted tree is in fact an alder.) Once you have satisfied any Gringotts goblins who may be present and discovered the secret they guard, proceed to the coin vault itself, where further magical dangers may await you.
