Geocache Description:

This cache was archived for a few years while I was off-island. I decided to unarchive instead of resubmitting an entirely new cache. This area has changed a lot in the past three years! This cache is easily assessable for cachers docked at port on cruise ships. Make sure you bring bread to feed the fish! BYOP

The Aloha Tower was opened on September 11, 1926. It was the main debarkation point for ships and the Tower was the first thing visitors to Oahu would see until the widespread use of aviation in the 1950s. When ships would dock large celebrations called Boat Days would occur. At ten stories tall it was the tallest and most prominent land mark in Hawaii for 40 years. It originally served as a lighthouse and offered a commanding view of the harbor and surrounding area. Just after the attack on Pearl Harbor the Tower was even camouflaged because it was considered such a prime target for sabotage. It eventually fell into disuse until the Aloha Tower Market Place was opened in 1994. Today many of the shops are shut down however as the facilities are being renovated. Recently Hawaii Pacific University has bought the property and has plans to make major changes. HPU’s plan for the 160,000-square-foot, two-story waterfront marketplace includes establishing student housing on the second floor with a multi-use complex that would house retail, dining and entertainment options on the first floor.

Today the only businesses that are active in the complex are: Hooters, Gordon Biersch, and the Star of Honolulu.

The cache is located at: N21 18. (A+379) W 157 (B+38). (C+886)

In order to find the cache you’ll have to travel up to the observation deck to get the answers to the following questions: A= The number of people on the cartoonish map of Oahu in the lobby at the top of the tower. B=Looking North (towards Murphies Bar&Grill) what is the pier number of the next pier? (it is visible on the building) C=How many large yellow beacon lights are on the West side of the tower (side directly facing Sand Island)? The observation deck is open daily 9:30 to 5.
