Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Pyrete Range, a part of the Lerderderg State Park. I live in Gisborne and this park has been on my back doorstep for the 8 years that I've lived here. It's an area that is largely unknown primarily because access is prohibited to all but walkers and mountain bike riders. I want to tell you that there are some lovely views to be had from within this range. There are some very steep hills, lovely valleys and high vantage points where you get a great view over the whole of the Pyrete Range, across to Mount Blackwood and also to Mount Macedon. This cache is not so easy to get to.. well, the cache itself is an easy find, but getting there will get your heart rate up.

You could just walk in and do this cache only, but if you can make a full trip through the Pyrete North to South and go via Mt Sugarloaf GC1DXCE (visit link) then that'd be a great route to take. If you don't have two cars or are planning on doing this one alone you're welcome to contact me, I can quite likely come pick you up from the south end of the Pyrete and ferry you back to your car at the starting point.

I'd suggest to walk in and back out from the northern access at Bullengarook will see you on a 3 hour return trip. To do the full walk, North, stopping at this cache and GX1DXE then coming out on Antimony Mine Road at the south would be about a 6 hour walk I'd think. I did that in 3 hours on a mountain bike, but I was pushing is a LOT of the way.

If you like to get out in the bush, and not be bothered by 4WD's or motorbikes then this is one for you. I found it great to have so many hill tops with good views. So often there are high peaks but you can't see out for the trees.

I haven't put a ton of info here as I'm assuming a few things..:
1. You'll be prepared and do some reseach, i.e. topo maps etc.
2. You'l most likely look at the Mt Sugarload cache (visit link) which has a heap of information relevant to this one also.
3. This is not super hard, but not one for the absolute unprepared beginner bushwalker.

If you look on google earth you might think there is a track to the east that you could enter or exit from. That track is on private property and not an option. You only options for public access are from the back of Bullengarook to the North or Antimony mine road to the south. - again see GC1DXCE (visit link) for lots more detail.

You're looking for a Ammo Can painted black with goodies & Logbook.

** This cache is in a remote area. Please tell at least two people of your intentions and estimated return time. **
