Geocache Description:

Lock & Lock container at old Newton Cemetery. About 15 minutes one way from I-79.

There is an access road that you are permitted to drive up right behind the Newton Methodist Church to this old cemetery. There was once a church here, but it was hit by lightning and burned early in the 20th Century.

My Great Great Great Grandmother is buried here. Her name was Frances Cochran Smith. Her husband John was a soldier in the Union Army in the Civil War. He is not buried here. Her husband and her located their family to Uler, WV well before the Civil War from Pocahontas County where the elder Smith had settled upon arriving from Ireland. The Smith's have been in Uler ever since this settlement. There are still many Cochrans along Stoney Creek Road in Marlinton as well.

This cemetery is not maintained well so be aware of weeds and poison ivy. There is a house near the cemetery access road that may house curious muggles if you are accessing at night time, be aware of this if doing night caching.

FTF CONTEST - Congrats to Abraham32 for being FTF/photo of almost all 4 of this series of southern Roane County caches. Team Abraham32 didn't get the photo of Smith Heritage 1 due to darkness, but I gave in anyway. Frex3wv got photos of all 4 but didn't technically get in the shot on Smith Heritage 2. But since I'm a pushover I'll award both with the prize.

For the rest of future cachers, go ahead and post your pictures as well. I'd love to see them, but no prizes.
