Geocache Description:

A 2 mile hike to the largest and most impressive glacial erratic in New England.

A local friend asked me if I wanted to hike out to see this "rock" he had found while hiking. "Sure" I said and off we went. As I approached, I noticed that his "rock" was just about the largest glacial erratic I had ever seen. I punched it into the handheld, and learned that it had a name ... "The Green Mountain Monster", and was the largest glacial erratic East of the Mississippi. WOW !!
(visit link)

Now you can come and see it too !!

There is a rope hanging down, possibly allowing you to explore the top ... but the rope (or at least what it was tied to) was not supporting my weight. So be careful if you try. The cache is certainly NOT at the top, and for that matter is not along the base or side either. It is about 50-100 feet away from the erratic.

Parking is near the dam and the glory hole drain. Take the South-ish trail, cross the gate, and turn left shortly thereafter. You are following some obvious and large trails.

Hike is 4 miles round trip with 660 feet of elevation change. There are closer ways to get to it, but they may cross private land, so use the parking listed.

Have fun !!
