Geocache Description:

A small to regular sized cache hidden on the summit of Corrin Hill offering spectacular views of North Cork and beyond
Note: A diversion through Fermoy will allow you to grab a few caches when en route between
Dublin and Cork and also allows you to avoid the toll booth on the M9 motorway at Rathcormac

This Cache has been greatfully adopted by barraseaclaid from Paulie-T and Collywobbles who placed the original cache which I replaced last year all credit for this fantastic location and information on this cache page goes to them.

Congratulations pgylbert on the FTF!
Description

Corrin Hill (Irish- Cnoc an Chairn); the Hill of the Cairn is located 3.5 km south of Fermoy, just off the old N8 (now R639) Cork-Dublin Road. and is a prominent landmark for the thousands of motorists that pass it each day. It is typical of the old red sandstone mountains of Munster. It is situated at the eastern end of The Nagle Mountain Range. The hill rises from the surrounding plain to a height of 222 metres (728 feet) and from the summit there are spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. One striking feature is the M8 Motorway which can be seen snaking from Cork in the south along the bottom of Corrin Wood and Northward to Mitchelstown.

Corrin Hill is of great historical signifcance and at the summit a mount forms a 'Carn Thiernagh' which dates back over 3000 years to the Bronze Age. The Druid Mogh Ruith is said to be buried here. Encircling the summit are the remains of a ring fort which dates to the early Iron Age. A large stone cross was erected in 1933 on the summit beside the cairn and is visible testament that the druidic influences have been replaced by Christian influences. The cross makes an impressive image especially when it is illuminated at night. The track to the summit features is also of religious interest with the 14 Stations of the Cross depicting the final events in the Passion of Christ placed at intervals along the way. "Stations" are held here each Friday morning at 10am. I

In addition there is a 4.5km circular waymarked walk through the forest, that takes you close to the cache location, click below for details:
