This cache is at the exact same coordinates as another cache that was archived. That cache was called "High Country" (GC1B9C) and was archived back in 2003.
Now you might wonder why I picked this place of all the archived caches out there. Well, High Country was the first geocache I had ever heard of. It must have been in 2002 or so, and a friend of the family had one of those crazily expensive GPS units people were talking about. He started talking about this strange game of looking for stuff with coordinates that he got from the internet. Well, we all went and looked for it and found it out in the middle of nowhere. It was kind of a neat thing, and it always stuck with me. I was finally able to afford a decent GPS of my own in 2006 and took up the sport myself. I looked for any caches in that area on GEOCACHING.COM but could never find it. After a lengthy search on Google, I finally landed on an old entry to the cache which brought up its website. That was when I learned of its unfortunate demise. I determined that on my next trip to Creede, I would place a new cache in the same spot as a memorial to my first geocaching experience.
The area is under thick tree cover, so coordinates will bounce around a bit. Enjoy your trip to a great historical place.
