While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed, and it is time to have it listed once again it will be no problem as long as it still meets the guidelines. Just drop me a note( by email at Mongo@geocachingadmin.com) and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and I am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
Mongo

Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to all those who served our nation in Vietnam. The site is wheelchair accessable, but the cache location may be difficult to reach from a wheelchair.

Many people don't realize that this nation's very first Vietnam Veteran's Memorial is located right here in Wentzville, MO. This site was originally the location of a tree of lights that was established by the citizens of Wentzville to raise funds to purchase Christmas gifts for those serving in Vietnam. The site was dedicated on December 19, 1967. By December of 1968 a 30 foot tree replaced the small tree of lights and two local artists provided a sculpture as its companion. Over time the tree unfortunately died and the sculpture was vandalized by those who just don't appreciate the sacrifices that were made for them. In 1984 the citizens of Wentsville re-dedicated a more permanent structure that boasts a beautiful column of red Missouri granite that is topped by the carved figure of an eagle. Photobucket
My fellow geocachers, this is your chance to visit this historic site and pay your respects to those who have earned the respect of a grateful nation! Much like the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington, DC; the Commander of the VFW in Wentzville (those responsible for maintaining this site) encourages those who wish to do so to place pictures, patches, medals, flags, teddy bears, etc. on the monument in honor of those who served in Vietnam. Perhaps you would like to write a personal thank you and place it here. Perhaps you have a picture of a loved one who served in Vietnam and has passed on. This site deserves more attention and who better to recognize it than GEOCACHERS! I look forward to reading the logs here and encourage you to write more than the normal TFTC/SL.
Permission to place this cache was given by Mary Jo Dessieux of the Wentzville Parks and Recreation and Commander Frank Barton of the Wentzville VFW. This fine hero even went as far as to ask if it would cost the VFW to have a cache placed here. This is just further evidence that our heroes appreciate being recognized for their sacrifice. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
