Manufactured in Patricroft for Thomas Walmsley & Sons, and used at Atlas Forge in Bolton until 1975 to process wrought iron, the last forge in UK to use the traditional indirect or puddling process for its production.
Since 1981 it has stood in the grounds of University of Bolton ( formally B I T )
