Geocache Description:

Grove Township

You are looking for a small sized plastic Rubbermaid container that has been taped camo. Take a look around this old cemetery and check out some of the dates. We had a great time placing this cache. Some of the old stones have a metal star near them with GAR and the years 1861-1865 stamped on them. GAR stands for Grand Army of the Republic. These men fought in the civil war!!! Some of these stones have dates that would place the birth of the people in the 1700’s. A great deal of Iowa history is in this area.

I found out about this area because my father grew up near here. Some of his family members are buried here. Close to this cache site is the grave of his uncle, Fred Brown. He died in 1921 in a hunting accident about 1-1/2 miles from the cemetery.
