President Abraham Lincoln declared Port Angeles, Washington to be the nation's second national city. Washington D.C. being the first. The first settlers here formed what was called the Puget Sound Cooperative Colony.
They needed a place to worship so they set about building this church in the year of 1888 and completed it in 1889, the same year that Washington became a state.
It was called then the First Congregational Church. It later became the Independent Bible Church which it remained until 1976 when Ray and Lora Green, realtors, purchased the building to use for their office, Carroll and Twin Firs realty.

At the time of the church's completion as the picture above shows, the entry was off First Street via the bell tower room along with the main sanctuary this was the entire building.
A large pot bellied stove was the heating plant. Worshipers arrived by horse and buggy and would put their kerosene lanterns on the floor of the bell tower to light their way home. In the dark winter months they would turn up their lanterns for light to use for their services.
About 70 years ago the back part of the church was built with an oil furnace, kitchen and social hall. The upstairs rooms were used as Sunday school classes and the pastor's study.

Today the building has changed little since 1888.
