The cache is located on Royal Avenue in Mount Royal. I suspect most people do not notice this interesting feature as they drive by.

Mount Royal is to be one of Calgary's most prestigious residential communities. Originally developed by the CPR, Mount Royal used to be known as "American Hill" due to the number of wealthy American entrepreneurs who built here in the early 1900's.

The CPR instructed William Toole of Toole Peet and Company, sole agents for the CPR in the sale of all its property in Calgary, to place restrictive covenants on the titles of each property on Plan 7080AJ.

The caveat, dated December 7th, 1911 included the following restrictions:
- no mercantile business building or livery stable to be erected.
- only one building, together with needed out-buildings on each lot.
- the house not to cost less than $2,500.00.
- the house, including any verandah or annex, must be a minimum of 25’ from the street or avenue.
- the covenant was to remain with the title on resale.
- the lots were not to be used as sand or gravel pits, and no sand, gravel or stone was to be removed from the lots.
These and more interesting caveats are still active on many of the lots in Mount Royal.
