This Garden produces flax (Harekeke) for weaving, baskets, cloaks, mats and dyes for all uses, as well as producing stock for Workshops run here and for prison inmates for their projects.
There are other shrubs grown here as well ( Pingao--Golden Sedge) to provide dyes from the bark, and the estuary close by as well as the streams produce mud which is also a valued source of cource of pigments.
The Garden is , at the moment run down as they rely on volunteer help and the principal worker has been unwell. There has been talk of the Council stepping to help.
