Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the "Downtown / Main Street USA" series. Please visit the cache that started it all - Downtown / Main Street USA: Edison NJ - GC11H9K. Here you will find the latest count of caches in this series and find out how you can add your own.

The maternal roots to my family tree were cultivated in Princeton, also known as Boon Hill or Boone Hill. As a reference for these caches I have utilized, “My Town, Princeton, North Carolina, A Book About Princeton People” authored by my Great Uncle, William A. Norris. I have used his words to describe a series of caches by which you are invited to explore this town.

Princeton was “laid out” in 1854 as a train stop for the Southern Railroad line. Population in the 1930 census was 500, today the population is about 1,146 within the town limits.

The first cache brings you to the entrance of Princeton's business district. Across the street, behind the trees are the remains of a thriving entertainment center for the youth of the 1940's and 50's. People flocked to the rink on Friday and Saturday nights from babe in arms to grandparents. The local doctors, Jones and Jackson, treated many busted elbows, broken bones, sprains, and related injuries.
Bobby's Burger Palace was directly across the street, a favorite hangout in the 60's and 70's. Another loss to the community, further down the street, was Dred's Hotdog and Pool - best place in town for food and fun.
