Welcome to our night cache!
Located along the path of the new Lewistown Narrows Canal Park
The park, situated along the old Lewistown Narrows roadway, is accessible on Old 22 from the Arch Rock exit.
The lock keeper's home exterior has been refurbished and work crews on the Lewistown Narrows project also have rehabilitated a section of the original Pennsylvania Canal, as well as adding park benches and other amenities to the park.
Situated in the shadow of the four-lane highway, the old stone walls of the lock stand as a reminder of the long history of transportation through the mountain valley.
A horse-drawn boat or tow-boat was a historic boat operating on a canal, pulled by a horse walking on a special road along the canal, the towpath.
Horse drawn boats were used well into the 1960s for commercial transport, and are still used today by passenger trip boats and other pleasure traffic.
The lock keeper's home is accessible when traveling either way on Route 22/322. At the far end of the parking lot, a walking trail starts which winds along the Juniata River. This will be the start of your night cache.
The area will most likely be wet and muddy after a rain. There is poison ivy along the path. There should be none at the actual cache location though.
The tacks are not all the same color. The next tack could be any direction or distance from the one you find. They start out green and will change randomly as you get closer to the cache. Look high, look low.
The cache is a horse theme in honor of the horses used to tow the canal boats.
CONGRATULATIONS TO SKUNKSR4ME for the FTF!!!!
