A cache placed within steps of Buffalo’s newest and perhaps most scenic nature trail “The Greenway Nature Trail." While hiking it this morning it occurred to me that 2 laps of the trail would roughly equal 5K and when I think of 5K I always think of my favorite 5Ker, The Hiking Cockroachess
We know that Deb the “Hiking Cockroachess” usually likes to combine a training run with a little caching and is always looking for new places to train so we schemed up a little plan. This cache is located at the newest nature trail in Buffalo “The Greenway Nature Trail” and will give her the opportunity to combine the activities and find a brand new place to do both. By our calculations Deb will have to do two laps along the trail to get her five k in. The rest of you are free to stop at one lap if you wish.
This trail was officially opened on August 15, 2008 and I have already visited three times, each time bringing another member of my family to see it for themselves. I’m impressed and I can’t wait to share it out of town guests and non believers who believe Buffalo is not worth resuscitation. This trail gives me hope that there is a renaissance in store for the place I choose to live. More importantly it provides public access to over a mile of Lake Erie Shoreline inaccessible to us for too long.
We hope your visit here causes you to share our sentiments and hopes that the progress continues. I for one think this area will transform before our eyes in the next decade or so and are happy to have witnessed the start of it.
We saw no signs limiting access to certain hours but did see an active police presence so we presume flashlight searches after dark will result in a visit from inquiring minds who want to know.
Road construction in the area (bye bye Skyway) will hamper access to the parking lot but we had no trouble accessing it from downtown via Route 5.
