The nearest geocache access location is from the lower Minnewaska State Park parking area (N41°44.082’ W074°14.656’; UTM: 18T E562848 N4620596) along Rt. 44/55. The 2008 NY-NJ Trail Conference Map 105 (Shawangunk Trails - North) illustrates access routes well.
The cache is located within a sheltered tree home of woodland gnomes situated roughly midway between Awosting Falls and Peter’s Kill Falls (situated just east of Rt. 44/55). These are two of the outstanding waterfalls of the Shawangunk Mountains. The Peter’s Kill Falls was formerly fitted with a hydroelectric plant. The geocache is within about 100 feet and south of the carriageway. The cache location was selected for its ease of access for all ages.
Current Cache Contents Include: log book, pencil, pencil sharpener, dolphin, gorilla, panda bear, and an airplane. In addition, Big Daddy Bear TB (TB20XXQ) was placed here for the first cacher to move along its way.
This geocache was approved and permitted by Minnewaska State Park Manager Alex Collins on 8-15-08, Permit No. MSPP-08-04.
