Expectations Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

geodarts: The only thing remaining here is the attachment device left by the previous cache to use this site. Since the container is missing, I believe that simply putting a new container in the same spot will not work - at least for a long while. Therefore, I am archiving this one, with no expectations as to what might happen to this spot in the future.

Geocache Description:

A cache to honor Kay Ryan, the former poet laureate of the United States and 2011 Pulitzer Prize winner, and my home town of Fairfax.

Those who found Pipe Dreams will recognize this hide. A long time after it was archived, I discovered that the attachment device for the cache was still in place. And then after Kay, who lives down my street, became our national poet laureate, I knew it was time to revive the cache in her honor.

As long as you are here, take a look around my home town. The Scoop has some of the best ice cream I have ever had. The Fairfax Variety is a great place to pick up geoswag. There are some nice places to eat and drink.

Pipe Dreams called Fairfax a "hippie town." I was not sure about that. While we remember our roots -- our city council is Green and we have labyrinths in our hills -- the hemp store closed a long time ago and with the price of housing, can any town in Marin still be "hippie?"

In any event, I knew that Kay wrote fine poetry and taught remedial English at the local community college, but Poet Laureate award was a surprise -- she is certainly deserving for both her poetry and who she is as a person.

One of her poems, Expectations, particularly fit this time and place:
We expect rain
to animate this
creek: these rocks
to harbor gurgles,
these pebbles to
creep downstream
a little, those leaves
to circle in the
eddy, the stains
and gloss of wet.
The bed is ready
but no rain yet.
The coordinates and hints were taken from the original cache. Stealth will be required since this cache is in the town park, just a few feet from the main street. You will not want to look for it during the Fairfax Festival or the Farmer's Market on Wednesdays (during the summer). If there are others around, sit down in an obvious spot and try to be inconspicuous.
