Geocache Description:

Please stay on the road to the cemetery and park in the area near the cemetery sign.

After placing I-CEE WATER, we kept thinking we had to find a cache placement we could name I-CEE Dead People. You can actually see the ice ponds from this cache and it brings notice to many people who have long been forgotten. You don't need to cross the fenced in areas to get to the cache, but can look into the cemetery and see some of the grave markers.
Most of the graves just have a metal marker, though some families have purchased permanent markers over the years. Until about 10 years ago, this cemetery was all but forgotten when a family member came looking for where their ancestor was buried. At that time, the WSH administration had the cemetery cleaned up, a sign was erected, and a bridge was built as an Eagle Scout project. Today, those buried at this cemetery are remembered every Memorial Day by WSH staff who place wreaths and clean up the area. Please be respectful of the area.

Prior to I-80 being built, this property was part of the main Wyoming State Hospital Campus which can be seen across the interstate. At one point the WSH (established in 1869) was almost completely self sufficient with a dairy, crops, cannery, livestock, butcher and anything else you can think of that would have been needed. This cemetery was used from the 1800's through about the 1950's or 60's. The WSH has evolved over the years and currently offers the most up to date psychiatric treatment to the citizens of Wyoming. Like many families in Evanston, almost every adult in mine and my husband's family has worked there at one point or another (it's one of the largest employers in the county).
