The Frog Prince's Treasure Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Hoosier_Reviewer: Attention cache owner,

It has been brought to my attention that the Charles C. Deam Wilderness area now prohibits geocaching.

The land managers have requested that we archive all active caches and prohibit all new caches. If you feel that there is an error and your cache isn't on their property, please email me at Hoosierreviewer@gmail.com

Thanks,

Geocache Description:

(a.k.a. House Where Nobody Lives, Pt.II) The Frog Prince may have been turned to iron, but he's still watching his house!

(NOTE: Special thanks to Indotguy for suggesting I try to find this cool spot!)

Greetings and salutations! Please enjoy this cache. Note that this can be part of a series of four, to include "Lost Marbles" and "The Woodland Witch's Treasure", and "The Handy Man"... or you can just do this one. Either way, have fun!

The Story:
Bad enough the Prince had an evil Tree Monster running around his cottage, but then he gets turned into a frog! (For more on how that happened check the two other cache descriptions listed above.) Living in his cottage until it falls down around him he lives off Flys that happend by... one of which still hides in the old Flue. Moving to the shelter of a tiny cave he keeps watch on the cottage as well as the Tree Monster. His treasure box is off to his left where he'd left it before the whole frog thing came up. See if you can find all four elements of this story and answer the question: Who does the Frog Prince need to see to lift his curse?
Okay, here we go:
To complete The Frog Prince's Treasure you will have to find the Frog Prince's cottage, then the following four (4) items. The Fly in the Flue, The Frog Prince, The Frog Prince's Treasure Chest, and The Tree Monster. Best to start at the Fire Tower in the Deam wilderness. You can head on back to the old Terrill cemetary via Sycamore Loop, then bushwhack on back to pick up GCH9JX (Terrill Ridge Trek) which puts you heading down the ridge to the cottage. Or, you can branch left not too far from the fire tower and head out down Axsom Branch until around N39 02.799/W086 19.904 where you'd turn kind of right and go bushwhacking. Either way, you'll come upon the remains of the Frog Prince's once elegant cottage. The Fly in the Flue managed to avoid being eaten by the Frog Prince by hiding in the Flue. If you're standing in the cottage door looking out there's a good chance the Fly is peeking at you from the Flue (right behind YOU!) Perhaps it was the Fly's magnetic personality that allowed him to hang on in his hiding spot(?) The Frog Prince himself has found a vantage point from which he can keep watch over his home as well as the evil Tree Monster. To find him, stand in the doorway and look across the valley. He's in a snug little spot almost exactly 100' in front of you if you're looking at bearing 346 degrees. If you took the time to find him and make sure he's secure he won't mind if you check out his treasure box. From the Frog Prince's hiding spot you traverse along the bank at heading 75 degrees for around 110 feet to the base of a fallen tree. The treasure is nearby, and may suggest who the Frog Prince needs to see to lift his annoying frog curse. (Feel free to log your guess!) Hopefully the trees and brush kept the Tree Monster from seeing where the treasure is. To confront the tree monster, go back and stand in the doorway again. Then, REALLY casual like, look back over your shoulder up the hill at around 120 degrees. He's about 119 feet over your right shoulder. Reach into his mouth (if you dare...) for the last of the four parts!
(Note: This is the second abandoned homestead cache I've done. The first was "House Where Nobody Lives" (GC19Z42) on the other end of the lake. Those ruins are WAY gone compared to this one, but I thought I ought to explain why this one has two names.) Thanks for looking. Hope you have fun! (...and thanks again to Indotguy!) (visit link)

Note: I recently altered the difficulty ratings on this one. I've done a couple of 5/5 caches now and thought I should change my specs. Hope this doesn't wreck anyone's grid if they're doing that.

Hmmm... I posted a route map for the Camoboys on here and realized some might wonder about that "Kill Bruce" notation on the map. Bruce is fine. This hike JUST ABOUT killed Bruce. He's building stamina, though. He'll be fine.
