A protected geographical-botanical reserve Đurđevački pijesci (Đurđevac sand), also known as Bloody sand or, Croatian Sahara, is a distinctive habitat of sandy vegetation, unique flora and fauna and preserved endemic species and the remains of the dunes. Today it is an open-air teaching place and a lure for the curios ones.

Posebno zaštićen geografsko-botanički rezervat Đurđevački pijesci, u narodu poznati kao Krvavi peski i Hrvatska Sahara, osebujno je stanište pješčarske vegetacije, jedinstvene flore i faune, sa sačuvanim endemskim vrstama i vidjivim ostacima pješčaih dina. Danas je učilište na otvorenom i mamac za znatiželjnike.

It is located east of Đurđevac and has been protected since 1963, with the area of 19,5 hectares, as the last nonafforested remnant, with the lenght of 12 kilometers as a belt of the Podravina Sands, i.e. The Croatian Sahara. The purpose is to protect the remained part of sand layers a special habitat significant for the survival of unique vegetation of the sand area, endemic plant community of the greyish silver grass and fescue grass, with a large number of plant and animal species is connected with, some of with we could not find anywhere else in Croatia.
In physical geography, a dune is a hill of sand built by aeolian processes -
Aeolian (or Eolian or Æolian) processes pertain to the activity of the winds and more specifically, to the winds' ability to shape the surface of the Earth and other planets. Winds may erode, transport, and deposit materials, and are effective agents in regions with sparse vegetation and a large supply of unconsolidated sediments. Although water is much more powerful than wind, aeolian processes are important in arid environments such as deserts.
Dunes are subject to different forms and sizes based on their interaction with the wind. Most kinds of dune are longer on the windward side where the sand is pushed up the dune, and a shorter "slip face" in the lee of the wind. The "valley" or trough between dunes is called a slack. A "dune field" is an area covered by extensive sand dunes. Large dune fields are known as ergs.

Đurđevački pijesci se nalazi istočno od Đurđevca. Zaštićen je 1963. godine u površini od 19,5 ha, kao posljednji nepošumljeni ostatak 12 kilometara dugog pojasa Podravskih pijesaka, tzv. Hrvatske Sahare. Svrha zaštite je očuvanije preostalog dijela pješčanih naslaga kao specofičnog staništa važnog za opstanak osebujne vegetacije pijesaka, endemične biljne zajednine trave sivkaste gladice i vlasuje bradice, uz koju je vezan velik broj biljnih i životinjskih vrsta, od kojih neke ne možemo pronaći nigdje drugdje u Hrvatskoj.
Dina je brežuljka pijeska izgradena eolickim proces. Eolicki proces - aktivnosti vjetra, ili mogucnost vjetra da se formira na površini zemlje i drugih plantet. Vjetar radi eroziju, premjestitii trgovina materijala, je efektivni faktor u regijama s raštrkani vegetacija i velikim pohranam neteških sedimentoh. Dok vode je je mnogo više vlast od vjetra, eolicke procesi su važni u sušno okolina, kao što su pustinjama. Duni su objekti razlicitih oblika i velicina, ovisno od interakcija uz vjetar. Vecina dine su dugo na strani od vjetar, gdje je pijesak gurnula dunu, i manje s druge strane. "U dolini" izmedu dinami zove "moje". "Dinove polje "je površina prekrivena velikimi dinami. Velike diunove polja su poznati kao "ergs"
