After completing the Moat Mountain Progressive
Challenge on August 16, 2008 Hipointer asked and kind of lightly
challenged me as to when I was going to do the upper caches on the
Red Ridge Trail. He also mention that the lower part of the
trail could use a few caches to complete the loop. This is
one of the caches that is placed to do just that.
This is a cache on the lower portion of the
Red Ridge Trail.
You can approach this cache three ways. The
easiest is probably from Diana's Bath parking lot (GCWVED) by
hiking up the Moat Mountain Trail to the junction of the Lower Red
Ridge Trail. From this trail junction it is a pretty gentle upslope
to this cache.
If you want a bigger challenge continue on up
the Moat Mountain Trail and combine the Moat Mountain Progressive
Challenge caches to where the Upper Red Ridge Trail goes down.
There are 17 Moat Mountain Progressive Challenge caches you can do
on the way up and you will have 16 Red Ridge Trail caches you can
do on the way back down the Red Ridge Trail completing the
Loop.
A third way is to
walk or mountain bike in Forest Service Road #379 at the end of
High Street. Park near the Tree'd cache, GC17DMC and follow the
road about 3 miles to the Red Ridge Trail. There are several
caches on the Service Road that can be done on the way in or
out. From the Junction of the Red Ridge Trail you can go up
or down. This cache would be down the trail from the trail
junction.
The usual applies, be sure to bring something
to write with and please carefully replace the
cache.
