Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to our Dad and grandfather (Gramps) who died in the Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton in November of 2007 from Mesothelioma - a cancer resulting from exposure to asbestos during his life as an engineer.

We are so grateful to the all the people and organisations who helped and are continuing to help the family We certainly couldn't have got through it all without the help of:
  • Macmillan Nurses
  • Cynthia Spencer Hospice (and not the Cynthia Payne Hospice as I once said to someone)
  • Mesothelioma UK
  • The staff on the Intensive Care Unit of Kettering General Hospital
  • and a special mention for Neil Bains who remained professional but approachable at all times

Having said all of that this is a happy cache and we have great memories so get out there and find it!

The above co-ordinates mark the start of the cache. It should take you about an hour to do and takes you to a section of the wood which an old school friend of my Dad has had dedicated to him through the Woodland Trust.

Originally, the cache contained:

  • The Flying Yorkshireman TB - for his love of trains and Yorkshire where he was born
  • Some drawing pencils - for his love of painting and drawing
  • A packet of seeds - for his love of gardening
  • A geometry set - for his love of engineering

Waypoint 1

At the starting location you need a phone number which will give you:

ABCDE E74E7 C

Also, how many minutes to Cranford? The two digits will give you FA

Now you need to go to:

N FE° ED.EBF   W AAA° D(F+1).CAE

Waypoint 2

At the new location, what colour is the bird?

  • If it is Brown then G=5
  • If it is Green then G=6
  • If it is Yellow then G=9

Also look for a post code which will give you 2 more clues. NGHJ 6LL. A simple bit of maths (H + J) will give you K

Now take the path to:

N FE° ED.DEG    W AAA° DG.KG(G+J)

Waypoint 3

This area of the wood has also been dedicated via the Woodland Trust. Which year was Jonathan born? Add all digits up, and keep doing that until you get a single digit which is L

Travel along the path again to:

N FE° ED.KGE    W AAA° HG.DLL

Waypoint 4

The question at this waypoint is an easy one... how many times does the word Twywell appear on this structure? That will give you M

You now can take the short walk to the cache location which is at:

N FE° (H-J)H.KKB    W AAA° DG.(M-3)FM
