Geocache Description:

IN HONOR OF IGNATIUS PETOSKEY! 1787-1885 The City of Petoskey was named after Chief Ignatius Petoskey. Post a PIC of the bay from here!

The statue overlooking the bay is the likeness of the founder of Petoskey. He was the son of a French fur trader & Ottawa native American mother. His decendants still live in the area. Photobucket Notice that his coat is receiving the wind blowing off the bay. Go across the street and read the historical plaques. That is a restored Confederate Civil War cannon. Read about its discovery! Notice the two large stones too. You DO NOT need to look among the greenery. Please be respectful!! Do watch out for mugglers and return the cache carefully so that others may enjoy this find too. Bring your pencil. SORRY U MISSED GCG822 & GC1BE91 SUBMIT A PIC!
