Geocache Description:

You are looking for an ammo box hidden in the back forest of an abandoned, unmarked cemetery. Don't try to access this from Rt. 45 as you would have to go over too much private property. Find alternate access and a very small parking area by going past the courthouse and engineer's office. Parking available at foot of hill leading to cemetery at N40 46.131, W080 45.732. It's a steep walk, thus the terrain rating.

Welcome to Jordanville!

Early in the history of Lisbon, Ohio, in the summer of 1808, there was a horrible fever that plagued the town. Because of the large number of people who died due to this fever, more cemetery space was needed than was already available. A local General (Beall) decided to donate a piece of land to be used for this cemetery.

Beall made a plan for the cemetery across the creek that runs through Lisbon. At the time, this area in Lisbon was called "Jordanville". Several noteworthy Lisbon residents cleared the area and prepared for use as a cemetery.

Lisbon had a large number of Dutch settlers, so on your visit you may notice several graves with Dutch text. The Jordanville Cemetery is also known as the "Old Dutch Cemetery" and the "Old Presbyterian Cemetery".

To see a list created in the 1960's of the graves in the cemetery, visit this link: (visit link)

You will notice that relatives of President McKinley are buried there and so is Mr. Lepper (for those in Lisbon who know what he did). You will also notice that the cemetery is in terrible shape. It is a sad shame, but at least with this geocache, the area is not forgotten. It is still maintained as best as possible by township crews who do not have the time or resources to make the needed repairs.

FOR FTF: Mini Maglight or Flash Drive or Batteries!

This is a great Geocache for families. It is filled with a lot of kids. Geocache starting out with: glow necklaces, bracelets, deck of cards, pencils, matches, cars, gold medal, tissues, band aids, teacher magnet, whistle.

A big "thank you" to the Lisbon Historical Society for their helpful information!!
