Geocache Description:

Preform tube Please closed securely to keep out moisture.

This was the second cache in the Ghost Train series that we placed. We've long been intrigued by the Milford and Manchester Railroad that was only in use for a few short years.

If you're interested in more Ghost Train caches along the route of the Milford to Manchester Railroad check out the bookmark: Ghost Train Series

This cache is placed on the old railroad bed in Bedford, NH near McQuade Brook.

The trailhead is just south of the bridge going over the brook (north west of the parking waypoint).

There is a home on your left for the first part of the trail. You should not cache at night so as to not alarm anyone.

You can also approach from the west, from the Town of Merrimack Transfer Station, but you'll need to stay close to the railroad bed to stay on public land as it is private land if you go too far to the north. The railroad bed lines up with the "old" northern entrance to the transfer station, which in fact, is the old railroad bed. There is a home on the right as you head in so you should not cache at night so that you don't alarm anyone.

Parts of the railroad bed that are low lying can get wet if we've had a lot of rain so keep that in mind if you're trying to find it in the spring or if, like October of 2024, beavers have been busy raising the level of the water. :).

When placing the cache I saw a Great Blue Heron. If you approach the cache quietly you may see a heron as well. I also saw a garter snake; if you don't want to see the garter snake, stomp your feet as you walk. :)

Please put the cache back carefully where you find it.

A bit more information on the railroad (owned by the Boston and
Maine Railroad) can be found here:

Congrats to 76-CJ7 on the FTF!
