Geocache Description:

A cache in one of the finest examples of the overlap between cool & warm climate temperate rainforest in East Gippsland.

The longer this cache remains unfound the harder this cache will get to find due to the deposit of leaves, bark & other rainforest litter.

It's not in a location remotely likely to be muggled. If you can't find it, you aren't looking in the right spot. Don't leave "it must be missing logs".

The drive in to Glen Arte from the Princes Hwy or from the Bonang Highway is fairly scenic which ever way you approach. The Bendoc Ridge Road is probably the most direct route and is suitable for 2wd all the way.

Once you turn off Puggaree Road into Arte Road for the drive along the creek you will be amazed by the fauna which rivals the Otways for the sheer beauty of the tree ferns.

The drive passes by a cascade worth a photo or two, and ends at the Glen Arte logging hut on the boundary of farmland. The hut is more of a barely standing ruin and is not fit for much more than basic shelter. Don't plan on staying in it.

Should you choose to detour to this cache and see why I love my East Gippsland back yard you won't be disappointed. On the 2 day trip when I placed this we drove in the Errinundra in nearly a foot of snow with more falling all the time, 4wd in sensational forests and visited the beach at Conran on the way home. Only in East Gippsland....

Note: Next two paragraphs apply to 4wd cachers only.
If you are a 4wd cacher then there are an abundance of tracks but they aren't for the faint hearted, the inexperienced or to single vehicle traveller.

The track surfaces can be exceptionally slippery all year round, particularly after rain. On the trip in to place this cache several hills required chains to negotiate safely and without causing substantial track damage through wheelspin. Front & rear difflocks did nothing. Descents on these tracks can be treacherous and one wrong move can cause substantial damage. Don't say you weren't warned.

The cache is an ammo box full of tools for the traveler. Trade even or trade up (it doesn't have to be tools.) BYO Pen (I didn't have a spare at the time.)

Please provide the cache with a little cover to avoid muggling (unlikely but you never know) before you leave.

Enjoy. I did.
