
Another cache for those who loves the adventure the hiking the mountain bikes the beauty of our country. It is situated in the unknown to many people peninsula of Methana. The Methana peninsula is still one of the most interesting places in Greece. There are more than 32 extinct volcanoes and a great mountainous landscape that reaches 740 m. The last volcanic eruption occurred near present-day Kameni Chora in 230 BC. Famous writers such as Ovid, Strabo and Pausanias reported the last volcanic eruption in Methana. The peninsula is the northwesternmost of the elbow of the Aegean islands of which the active volcanic areas are Methana, Milos, Santorini and Nisyros. In the future, Methana may expect other volcanic eruptions.
The cache area is in the most know and imposing volcano of Kameni Chora. Kameni Chora (In Greek, means burnt town which name is derived from the nearby volcano). The village Kameni Chora is one of the most beautyful, traditional villages of the region Trizinia and Methana. The great landscape and the dominating volcano dome are surely a great point of interest. If you want to visit the historic volcano, the first stop may be the village with its beautiful tavern "Ifestio Therapevtirio". There is an asfalt road leads you to the foothill of the volcano. At the end of the asfalt road you can walk into the center of the historic volcano. If you like walking, or mountain biking you can follow the earth road and get back to Methana town. It takes about 3-4 hours on foot and you can visit the center of the peninsula. If you have a 4WD car or you don't care much for your car you can do the same route with it. The road is not very bad but is not recommended for normal cars. The route will recompense you with many scenic views and you will visit settlements that dates back to ancient times. Have with you a lot of water, and appropriate wears.
To find the cache you have to follow the path that goes to the volcano of Kameni Chora. Few meters before the end of the path that finish to the crater of the volcano you have to leave the path and turn North. Be very carefull because the rocks are sharpen and decayed so try if is stable where you put your foots down.
