West Virginia was admitted into statehood on June 20, 1863, after seceding from the state of Virginia during the Civil War. It is the only state in the Union to have acquired its sovereignty by proclamation of the President of the United States.
This cache is located in the gravel pull-off area on the Virginia side of the West Virginia and Virginia state line on Rt 55.
