Geocache Description:

A short Kayak or Canoe ride on a quiet lake to a small island.

For many years our family has been going up to Lake Abanakee every summer for vacation. We go all over the ADKs during the summer, fall and even winter but, Abanakee is always the kids favorite. They love that they can paddle boat, canoe or kayak all over the lake because it is so small and there is very little traffic. But, what they love the most is that they know the lake well enough now to know where the good fishing spots are.

This cache will take you close to the minisliders favorite spot to catch perch and LOTS of them! You can put your kayak or canoe in near the Abanakee Hydrocache which is off of Chain of Lakes Road (just west of bridge on Rt 28 - approximately N 43 47.433, W 74 14.083)

Anyone who knows this lake knows that there are submerged stumps - so be careful - don't try this cache with a motor boat - unless you plan to anchor out further and swim to the island - it gets very shallow as you approach the island with big stumps and rocks. The hardest part may be finding the right place to land on the island and get to the cache.
