Geocache Description:

This cache is located right along westbound Highway 6 & 24, about a mile east of Parachute

Parachute is home to several sources of power as well as the thorough fare for other types power and stuff. Parachute has recently been known for its natural gas development but before that, Parachute was known for its shale oil projects. Look up toward the top of Allen Point (the ridge/point to the Northeast) and you can see a band of dark gray/black rock, more commonly known as Oil Shale, the rock that burns. Parachute doesn’t have any electrical plants in the area, but this substation once supplied the power for the UNOCAL Shale Plant. An upgrade was to power the EXXON project. After Black Sunday, the upgrade never came to be! Look up and down the right of way and you can see round PVC pipes sticking out of the ground with orange tops. These are fiber optic lines transporting information up and down the “super highway” right along side the federal interstate “snail highway”. Other stuff in the right away includes multi-colored Popsicle sticks, or pipe line markers. The right of way has everything from 4” to 24” pipes in the ground. Buried Treasure!

Congratulations to gooftroop4 for the FTF :0)
