Andrew Jackson 1767-1845 7th President of the United States of America In 1765 the family of Andrew Jackson, his parents Andrew Snr, his mother Elizabeth Hutchinson & brothers Hugh & Robert, who were living in Boneybefore, Carrickfergus, emigrated from the port of Larne to Charleston, South Carolina. They joined with family members & settled on land at the edge of Waxhaws Settlement. Andrew Snr died just before his son Andrew was born on 15th March 1767. Andrew Jackson grew up with his extended family circle & became a lawyer & then moved to Nashville where he was appointed a judge. In 1796 he was elected to the House of Represtatives later becoming a Senator & a Major-General of the Tennessee Militia. By 1815 he had acquired the nickname (Old Hickory) & was commissioned in the regular army. He became a national hero when he defeated the British army at the Battle of New Orleans. In 1828 Andrew Jackson was elected 7th President of the United States of America. he served for two terms between 1828 to 1837. He is remembered as the father of the Democratic Party. He died on 8th June 1845 & is buried at his home (The Heritage), Nashville, Tennessee.
